Cervicogenic headache is very common in musculoskeletal medicine.  Headaches are reported to occur in 80% of post whiplash injuries.  The lecture covers the pathomechanisms of headache production from the upper cervical spine.  There is a review of basic laser safety, and laser therapy protocol for treatment of headaches originating from injury to the cervical spine.  The case studies presented are unique in that the headache patterns described were alleviated after laser therapy treatment of the mid thoracic spine.  The proposed mechanisms of biomechanical chain spasm and autonomic contribution in cervicogenic headache production are discussed.

Objectives:

The doctor will understand mechanisms of how laser therapy influences treatment.

The doctor will be able to employ techniques in his practice for the treatment of some cases of headache.

The doctor will have a basic understanding of laser therapy protocols for treatment of cervicogenic headache.
